Out of 5oo non-profit youth led projects; LoYAC was shortlisted as one of the ten finalists for the prize of His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan for Youth Innovation and Achievement. Although only three or four of the finalists were supposed to receive a grant of $50,000, his Majesty decided that all ten projects were worthy of the generous grant. The winning projects represented many Arab countries; Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan and Kuwait. Nadia Al-Saqqaf, a founding member, represented LoYAC throughout the application and deliberation process for the award. Nadia was subjected to a rigorous series of interviews about LoYAC and its plans for the future, by the King Abdulla Development Fund (KAFD) in order to assess the project. In April, 2009, the top 10 finalists received an invitation from KAFD to attend the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea, in Jordan. They participated in discussions forums and shared their views on many issues concerning their future and the future of their countries amidst such a difficult economic time. On the last day, all ten finalists were honored to accept the spontaneous decision, by His Majesty King Abdullah to grant all ten finalists the award. Nadia is profoundly honored to have represented the LoYAC family made up of all its dedicated volunteers and staff, without whom LoYAC wouldn’t exist. LoYAC plans on spending the grant on the development of its Beirut and Amman branch. In this happy occasion, LoYAC would like to extend its deepest thanks to everyone involved in making LoYAC work.
