“I was able to benefit from all programs of LoYAC”
-Al Farouqi
Mohammad Al Farouqi, one of LoYAC’s students, currently works as Business Project Engineer in ExxonMobil Production Company, USA. Mohammad benefited from all the opportunities provided to him by LoYAC including summer internships locally and internationally, volunteering opportunities and personal growth programs which were crucial in his development as a professional and as a person.
He answered some questions...
How did your story with ExxonMobil start?
“In the beginning, LoYAC established relations with ExxonMobil in order to obtain internship opportunities in the summer for engineers. As I had already applied in LoYAC for the summer program as usual, the LoYAC management offered me the opportunity to train in Texas instead of Kuwait. They chose me based on my successful completion of 7 Habits Teens workshop in 2004, my past experience with the summer program in 2005 where I interned in Gulf Dredging Company and my volunteering work in KACCH.”
What is the internship period that you received in Exxon Mobil and what was your job like?
The training period was 10 weeks, and during this period my job was similar to that of an Industrial Engineer of ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas. I was given several tasks in relation to projects in different sectors. I worked hard and was able to win praises from my direct supervisors. My job included visits to centers in relation to natural gas production in various locations within the state of Texas. I also worked on oceanic locations and oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.
Did this type of training help you in any way in your studies?
Of course yes. As I was studying engineering in the US, this experience helped me in my education and was very useful for me. And this was the big reason for me to graduate with high honors. My internship in a financial institution in London through LoYAC was a plus.
How did you get the permanent job in ExxonMobil?
In 2008 ExxonMobil provided me with a permanent work opportunity and a good salary, and what surprised me is that this offer was given to me from 3 various sectors within the company and all of them knew about the others’ offer. I joined them since that time.
What do you say after this period and other opportunities you have received?
Certainly, I would like to thank LoYAC that provided me with each of those opportunities and if it wasn’t for LoYAC I would have never gotten such a job opportunity. And I would like to thank the management of ExxonMobil Kuwait which gave the youth of Kuwait internship opportunities in the summer in Texas. I am glad to represent LoYAC which enhanced my chances.
What advice do you give the youth of Kuwait?
I advice the youth to never let go of any opportunity in training in the summer, it is more important than a summer course and although I was delayed one semester from graduation I do not regret taking a summer internship. I have never missed a summer without working and these work experiences gave me the opportunity to get a job in an internationally renowned organization like ExxonMobil.
