In today's educational environment, basic skills are valued whilst the various fields of the arts are often neglected. The arts have the power to teach, inspire, unify and transform individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Research conducted by RAND, a nonprofit organization, studied 30 years of trends within the performing arts educational system. The research showed that young people who are engaged in the arts demonstrate higher academic performance including increased standardized test scores than those not involved in the arts. Music and drama have shown to develop critical thinking and self discipline skills and improve a child’s early cognitive development. It also furthers basic math and reading abilities, self–esteem, team‐work and reasoning skills. The influence of arts in our youth will lead to more creative architects, engineers, designers and business majors to become more involved and skilled in the labor sector.

Event Objective

ALARGAN International Real Estate Company and Mövenpick Hotel & Resort Al Bida'a Kuwait are hosting an open day event, 'Design For Youth', which will promote local artists, designers and performers in Kuwait.

The Design For Youth's primary goal is to encourage young artists to display their work and  in turn increment funds for LoYAC. Lothan Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA), is a project currently being worked on by LoYAC. LAPA focuses on encouraging Kuwait's youth to develop their skills and talents in the performing arts. ALARGAN strongly believes in the future generation of young people and what they can achieve. The DFY project provides engaging and effective ways of encouraging young people to take responsibility in becoming involved individuals.

Cultural & Entertainment Event’s Agenda

1. Art Exhibition
'Design For Youth' will host an exhibition for talented artists to show case their work in our event. This will include paintings, calligraphy, excerpts from writers work, photography and fashion designing. We will be able to accommodate up to 17 artists to display their work or sell their art pieces. The art exhibition will include students of universities, professionals and others such as jewelry makers. This will also promote young artists in pursuing their own business. The art exhibition will take place throughout the day.

2. Family & Kid Activities
The event will include a number of games and activities for children. Guests will be able to use the facilities of the hotel, including the pool. The family and children’s activities will take place from 11 till the afternoon. Food will be provided throughout the day.

3. Talent Show
A live performance where the contestants (students from universities and schools) perform singing, dancing and other art forms. This will take place in the afternoon.

4. Fashion Show
The event will allow Reina and Closet Candy clothing boutique owners to showcase their latest fashion lines. Occurring towards the end of the event, the fashion show will be take place outdoors.

5. Auction
The auction will include a variety of items donated by sponsors. Guests will bid on these items at very low prices.
