Nowhere in the world should the work of civil society organizations be more pronounced than in areas torn apart by social injustices. In Yemen LOYAC acts as a beacon of hope, shining a light to a better future, teaching society that this is not the end, but only the beginning of building a healed, loved, well-rounded community.

Our Yemen chapter does critical work in the South of Yemen. They carry a message of peace in areas where none can be found; we strive to enhance the youth’s abilities in rebuilding themselves and changing the narrative of their story. We hand them the tools and watch them create positive effective change, uplifting themselves and their communities. The economic downfall is just one of the many immeasurable consequences of war.

Millions of able-bodied Yemeni adults are unemployed, and due to the lack of financial means, they are subjecting themselves and their family to (a) famine, (b) unsanitary water, (c) malnutrition, (d) disease, and (e) displacement.

Give Her a Chance aims at, first, increases the employment opportunities for women who live in the coastal and countryside towns of Aden and Lahj governorates by teaching them reading and writing to create a generation that is aware and economically independent. Second, women are then provided vocational training in: sewing, cosmetology, and the creation of Yemeni well-rounded community. Third, the graduates are provided with a microloan as capital for their business or services.Thus, the key objectives are to:

  • Eradicate illiteracy among women who suffered the consequences of the war in Yemen.

  • Provide women with financial independence by teaching them skills and trade.

  • Foster women economic empowerment which leads to food security within each family, better health, and safer living conditions.

IMPACT

Phase 1: Literacy Classes

  • Fourteen teachers taught 500 girls and women, between the ages of 12 to 60, participated in a condensed 4th grade Arabic language and mathematics curriculum.

Phase 2: Vocational Training

  • On the 15th of April 2018, 100 women were accepted to the vocational training course, some of the women were graduates of the literacy classes.

  • The women learned sewing, cosmetology and how to make natural aromatic incense

UPCOMING OBJECTIVE

Phase 3: Microloans

  • To employ and commission a selection of highly qualified women to create and sell products for profit.

  • Women will be paid to create the products which will be sold at fundraising events in Kuwait. Proceeds from the sales will return to be re-invested in the vocational school.
